Release of Code for PrismServer.Net

I've just registered a new domain name under which I plan to release source code for C# versions of PrismServer and TurboSprite. My hope is that these components packages can be extended in an "open source" fashion. Eventually my plan is to use these as the building blocks for a new .Net version of Solar Vengeance. Brains and Scenarios will be .Net assemblies that you can build in Visual Studio or any .Net programming environment. This will open up unprecendented level of extensibility for strategy gamers interested in programming.

I will need help setting up a new site, so any interested webmaster should contact me!

No prob --

And if you really really need to find what was on a page that no longer exists, you ought try using the Web Archive Project:

Thanks for the suggestion, but I still have all of the source files local.

Hey Glitch, good to hear from you again.

Anyways, as much as I'd love to get involved in the revival of SCG, I work at a major software company, and I'll need to get clearance before I can involve myself in an open source project.

Projects under GPL are against the policy. BSD might be okay, but I'm not sure. Public Domain should be fine, but I don't expect you to public domain your source code.

Also, could you please look at this thread: http://com2.runboard.com/bsiliconcommandergames.f1.t183 ? I'm planning on making a spin-off strategy RPG of Solar Vengeance, and I would like your approval before continuing work on it.

I'm still researching which license to use but I know it will not be GPL.

After reviewing the licenses I've decided to go with BSD. Look for the birth of a new SCG site very shortly!

Hey glitch! Using .Net assemblies to program brains is exactly what I have been waiting for a long time.
The only thing about programming SV4 brains is that you're limited in how much stuff you can do. There were a couple of times that I would want to change how the distance function measures distance. With the assemblies, you can program your own functions including ways to measure distances. This is exactly how I wanted to make brains. Plus with the faster framework, I can make more complex algorithms to make the AI even better while keeping the speed at a tolerable level.

I was thinking about beta testing SV5 for multiplayer because I noticed some very odd bugs happening while playing multiplayer. Beta testing is something I'm good at. I test everything possible to make sure that something odd can't happen, and as an end result, my VB programs come out virtually bug free.

Those are the two big steps forward that I see too. First, faster performance from the Brains because they are not interpreted. Second, the unlimited nature of the .Net Framework in programming them. I will definitely need help with beta testing and look forward to that stage. My first step here is to complete some last minute tweaks with PrismServer .Net and get this package out the door (as open source) complete with server application and Chat 'N Draw. I will run my own PrismServer .Net for testing and development of this package.
